Spielbericht:

After a disappointing opening day defeat against VSG Weberwiese THC lined up for their first home
game of the season against BSG KAB. A threadbare squad met up at a sunny Lobeck more in hope
than expectation. Hope prevailed and THC came out victorious in a comfortable 2-0 win.
The first half started evenly enough before THC settled into their playing style and started to
dominate possession against the inferior outfit. Chances were few and far between in the first half,
BSG had a free kick well saved by our expert Goalkeeper, including a follow-up save from the
rebound. Max and Paulo in central defense had their tricky number 10 in their pockets for most of
the game and dealt comfortably with their long ball bombardments. The first half was meandering
towards a goalless end until THC won a free kick left of center about 30 meters from goal. Paulo
stepped up and delivered a perfect ball to the far post which met Sander’s forehead with precision.
The Keeper made a fingertip save from the bullet header but Leo was there on the rebound to tap-in
from one meter. Another chance followed towards the end of the half with Sascha coming up short
against their keeper.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first half, with THC asserting dominance
through ball retention. Shortly into the second half, THC doubled their lead from the spot. Some nice
play down the left led to a ball across the box from Conor which found Manu in space. Manu’s
technical ability shone through, drawing the foul after some nice footwork. Paulo continued his set
piece dominance as he rifled the ball into the top right hand corner. The keeper could only manage to
get a hand to it. The opponent had their own struggles, with injuries adding up and ultimately leaving
them with ten players on the pitch for much of the second half. BSG didn’t end up troubling either
our defense or our goalkeeper in the second half. THC had some more chances to increase their lead
but couldn’t take advantage.
Overall it was just what the doctor ordered after a chastening defeat in MD1. Spirits were high after
the match as we tasted victory for the first time in the Verbandsliga. Onwards and upwards as we
take on FC Horrido on Saturday. We were well supported on the sidelines from those out injured
amongst others, Peter, as always, leading the chants from the Terraces
